Exploring the Cultural Heritage of Dras: A Glimpse into Ladakh’s Rich Traditions

December 9, 2024 0 20

Dras, also known as Hem-babs or “Snow Land” (with “Hem” meaning snow), is a tranquil town nestled within the breathtaking landscapes of Ladakh. The name “Dras” originates from the Dard language.

As the saying goes, culture is the true identity of a place, and Ladakh is home to a rich tapestry of diverse communities, each with its own unique cultures and traditions. The Sheena and Baltic cultures are two prominent examples, and the people of these communities take pride in representing their cultural heritage at every opportunity. Our agency works to promote these traditions by organizing cultural programs and providing platforms for youth to showcase their talents. We also visit schools and institutions to offer students and young people opportunities to engage with the diverse cultures of the Ladakh region.

Want Dras offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in a range of cultural experiences that showcase the local way of life. Their tours often include participation in traditional festivals, which highlight the region’s vibrant customs and celebrations.
